Best shore excursions in Skagway and Juneau and Sitka,Alaska?

We are taking a 7 night Cruise on Royal Caribbean to Alaska August 4th and we want to know what are the most exciting off shore excursion? .Are we wise to get reservations for these excursions before the cruise or wait and get them on shore? Do you recommend a plane ride?
